University Food Services has been participating in the campus organics collection program since 2009. Organic material is collected from the back-of-house operations of the dining rooms and retail food outlets.
Each of the retail outlets is also equipped with organics collection in the front-of-house for patrons to dispose of any organic material such as fruit and vegetables scraps, paper towels, coffee grinds, etc.
Organic material is picked up by a waste hauler and sent to a local composting facility.
In 2019-2020 our dining halls and retail locations collectively diverted 105 MT of organic materials from ending up in landfills.
The Grey bin is for regular waste, Red is for recycling and Yellow is for food or organic waste.
